There are lots of ways for you to participate in the HCYC program and to serve the needs of our students. Some of them are short term projects and others need to be done on a regular basis. You get to decide how much and what you want to do. We are grateful for your contribution.
Wanted: Great volunteers doing extraordinary things
With the exception of a small paid staff, HCYC is a volunteer organization. It is the only way the group fulfills its mission and serves our primary purpose: To educate area youth in a musical environment that challenges them while providing a safe and nurturing place for them to grow and develop as human beings.
Since the bar has been set high, anything you contribute makes this vision possible. When you contribute your time, expertise and dedication to HCYC, you enrich us all. We thank you for that.
Who are we looking for?
HCYC volunteers come in all sizes, shapes and experience levels. Different jobs require different skills. The most important aspect of volunteering is the willingness and commitment to see the job through.
If you are a parent, grandparent or other family member/ friend of a student or if you have an inkling that you would like to positively impact the lives of some young people, then we would like to talk to you about our present needs.
Only what you’re willing to do
Have you ever volunteered for something and then felt it was such a burden there was no joy left in the work?
Many of us have and that’s why we always try to match the right person to the job. And if you ever get to a point where you are feeling it’s too much, then talk to us. We don’t want you to burn out. We value your time and our relationship with you.
We appreciate your commitment and willingness to help and that is why we won’t ask you to do more than your willing to do.

Be an HCYC Ambassador
As you are reading about the different needs HCYC has, if you come across something and say to yourself, ‘Hey, I’ll bet Bill or Jane, or Juan or Maria would be good at this’, would you give them a call? It would be like being an HCYC Ambassador. If you like, we will call you Ambassador. Thanks, Mr/Mrs/Ms Ambassador. There might be a Knighthood in this for you.
Do you have an idea?
Do you have an idea for something that could benefit HCYC and want to volunteer for it? Even if you don’t want to do it, let us know about your idea. It may be something we should add to the list. Send us an email on our Contact page and share your ideas. Thank you.
Short term projects
Video Editing – Occasionally there are small video projects that need to be done such as:
- Testimonials from students and parents
- Events such as retreats, community events
- Rehearsals to put on site so that others can get a sense of how we work
Testimonials -This is a biggie. Testimonials let others get a peak at the real value of joining HCYC. What’s the real juice behind teaching kids to sing? Hint: It’s not just about the singing. There’s more going on. What does joining HCYC do for the kids in the long term? Perhaps some of these: Confidence, commitment, persistence. Put on your detective hat and find out.
- Need help gathering testimonials from current singers and their parents.
- Talking to graduates would be great too
- An extra bonus would be to get pictures of the testimonial givers.
- An extra, extra bonus would be someone that could do video testimonials and edit them. Wow, that would be awesome! We’ll put them on our site and show the world!
Create & Organize Music Database – We need a music database that can track all of the music HCYC has purchased. This will help us keep costs down as we sometimes will use the same music in different performances. The database will also be like a historical archive that our music directors can access for inspiration and to make sure we are good stewards of our money by not buying duplicates.
Concert Help – We need help at our concerts. Nothing strenuous. There are 3 concerts per year so you could volunteer for 1, 2 or all 3.
- Handling tickets and ticket sales
- Help the 3 choirs to and from their seats
- The Donation table
- We could also use help with someone overseeing the concert volunteers
Marketing – Help us reach a broader audience.
Reach out to:
- Private and public schools
- Home school kids
- Day care centers with kids at least in kindergarten
- What ideas do you have?
Ad Sales – Sell advertising to local businesses in our Concert brochures. This would really help our bottom line and would only happen 3x a year. Didn’t you always want to be a Madman or Madwoman?
Fundraising – This is always a biggie for any org and we’re no different. We would prefer someone experienced with fundraising. Here’s a few ideas:
- Auctions (See the Goods & Services page)
- Host Dinners – People pay to go to someone’s house or for the host/chef to go to theirs and prepare a meal. Good community building event.
- Community Building Events – such as Burgerville (Some money is raised)
- What kinds of experiences have you had with fundraising?
Grant Writer – There are a lot of smaller grants out there that are not worth a paid grant writer’s time, but for someone willing to donate a small amount of time they would make a big difference in our budget. We would want you to apply for some larger ones too. Make us smile. ???? We know of some orgs that we can apply to and would expect you to do some research as well.
Music Database – Once we have created a music database, we need to keep it current.
